the Release of
Sleepaway Camp was officially released in theaters on November 18, 1983. For years the movie was out of print. Those who did not own it could only rent it. And even then, most video stores stopped carrying Sleepaway Camp. It was virtually impossible to find. However in 1998 Troma announced their plan to re-release Sleepaway Camp, but that fell through when the people who were going to sell Troma the rights to the movie admitted to never owning the rights in the first place. " (TROMAVILLE, NJ) Troma Entertainment has expanded its library to more than 250 films in the past year, acquiring several prestigious libraries. As part of their long-term business plan to increase the versatility of the Troma's brand name entertainment, Michael Herz, vice-president of Troma, expects to expand the library to 500 films by the end of the fiscal year. Among the films acquired are several featuring major Hollywood stars, including Jack Nicholson (Rebel Rousers), Robert DeNiro (Hi, Mom!) and Dustin Hoffman (Madigan's Million). Classic titles like Hell's Angels '69, Sleepaway Camp and Witch Without A Broom are also among the newest Tromovies." Things looked very boo for Sleepaway Camp until one bright day in 1999, Anchor Bay (formerly Video Treasures), announced they were to release Sleepaway Camp. Not only once, but thrice, as a standard full frame, a collector's widescreen edition and a dvd video. It was like a dream come true. Despite the release date being constantly changed, the movie was finally released in all three formats. Although the print they received to remaster and release was cut, at least now fans had a chance to own Sleepaway Camp. Another suprise to fans was the release of a box set including all three Sleepaway Camp movies. Taking the initial DVD for Sleepaway Camp released in 2000, it was joined with it's siblings which received the royal treatmant unlike it's predecessor. It came in a plain white box with cover sleeve, a booklet and a bonus disc featuring the production footage for Sleepaway Camp 4: The Survivor. |
