Sleepaway Camp VS Friday The 13th
People love to compare Sleepaway Camp to Friday The 13th. They also love to say that Sleepaway Camp is nothing more than a Friday The 13th rip-off. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sleepaway Camp takes place at Camp Arawak. Camp is in session, and the cast is a group of children, as well as adults. The plot focuses on Angela, a shy camper who is harrassed by adults and children. By the end of the movie, it is revealed that the killer is in fact Angela, and that she is actually a he. Having survived a fatal boating accident in which his father and sister were killed, young Peter was taken in by his psychotic Aunt Martha who had raised him as his dead sister, Angela. Friday The 13th takes place at Camp Crystal Lake. Camp is not in session, and the cast is a group of young adults. The only child in the movie appears in a flashback, and only briefly. Despite the warnings of townspeople, would be counselors prepare the abandoned camp for the arrival of campers. One by one, they are offed, until only one is left to do battle with the killer. Mrs. Vorhees, who once worked at Camp Crystal Lake, has come back to get revenge for her young son who drowned while the counselors who were supposed to be watching him were off having sex someplace. The only similarities these two movies really have is that they take place at summer camps, and they both have a murder by decapitation. Other than that, the stories are completely different, and for the life of me I cannot understand why people continue to compare them. |
