Research Report
The report should be only four pages, including the title page and reference page. The body of the report should be two pages, typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font. (If you have absolutely no way of getting to a computer to type, come talk to me.)
The report should be based on the research sources you have been finding. When writing an academic, scientific paper, you should ONLY write in the third person. For instance, never say I, we, our, you, yours, etc.
Your first draft, to be graded by a peer, will be due on October 18.
Here are your sections:
· Title Page. This should be its own page. Put the title in large font in the middle of the page. The font should remain Times New Roman. Your name, your science fair title, your period and your school are on the bottom of the page in normal font size.
· Body of the Report. You need section headings for the different parts of your report. Make sure your headings are noticeable (ex: bold type).
A. Introduction. The introduction sets the scene for your report. The introduction includes what prompted your research and a little summary of what the rest of the paper will say.
B. Discussion. The discussion is the essence of your paper. Your information should flow smoothly. Be thorough. Allow your readers to see your train of thought, letting them know exactly what you found out. Make sure you include and make in-text references to what has been published about your topic. This should be the longest section of your paper.
C. Conclusion. Briefly summarize what you found out. Be specific and don’t generalize. Include a place where you state the hypothesis and problem statement or engineering goal for your experiment.
D. Acknowledgements. (Include this section only if it is
needed.) You should always credit those
who assisted you, including individuals, businesses, and educational or
research institutions.
·
References. This should be on a separate page. Your reference list should include any source you
quoted or paraphrased in your paper. See
the reference page the teacher gave you concerning APA style. You must have 4 sources, one of which cannot
be the Internet.
