Carl August Lustig (February 26, 1876 - September 6, 1949)
Carl August Lustig was born in Germany (Prussia at that time) and in the region known as Silesia on February 26, 1876 to August Lustig and Christina Heller (Hellar). It has been said that Carls Dad died as a result of an accident while working in the coal mines shortly before Carl was born.
Carls life was very hard in Germany. Ted Lustig, Sr. and our cousins recall that Carl lived and worked in a barn or cave, ate raw potatoes from the fields, and never had meat to eat while he lived in Germany. Apparently, Carl was too young to work in the fields so he stayed in the barn or cave where his mother and sister were living and when they were working in the fields. He came to Minnesota in 1892 at the age of 16 with his mother and sister.
At the age of 24, Carl started serving three years (February 4, 1900 to February 3, 1904) at Ft. Ethan Allen, Vermont) in the armed forces (Pvt. Troop B 15th Regiment Cavalry) during the Spanish-American War-Philippine Insurrection. Carl bought a 10-acre piece of land in Section 27 in Clinton Falls Township that was listed in the 1897 landowners record for Steele County. A. and C. Fisher (August and Christine or Carl Tischer) were listed as having land (40 acres) just south of Carl Lustig and also had some land (190 acres) south of A. Hellars land.
Carl Lustig and Anna Tischer were married on November 22, 1904 in Owatonna, Minnesota. A Minister of Christ performed the ceremony and the marriage was witnessed by Albert Schlinsog (first cousin to Anna and son of Helen Tischer Schlinsog) and Emma Tischer (first cousin to Anna and daughter of Carl Tischer). Carl Lustig apparently bought August Hellers farm sometime after 1897. Carl and Anna Lustig farmed in Clinton Falls, Minnesota from 1904 to 1941 and had 11 children: Henry, Edward, Freeda, Richard, Theodore, William, Paul, Emma, Bertha, Lila, and Viola. In 1941, Carl and Anna moved to 1420 North Cedar Street in Owatonna until their deaths. Anna Tischer Lustig died Sunday, June 8, 1947 at the Owatonna City Hospital. Carl Lustig died on Tuesday, September 6, 1949 in Hennepin County, Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
August or Charles Lustig - Father of Carl August Lustig
August or Charles Lustig (August according to his wifes obituary and Charles according to his daughters obituary). August Lustig was born in 1843 and died in Silesia in 1875 (or 1876) at 32 years of age. Apparently, he was killed in the coal mines of Silesia before his son Carl was born and when his daughter Pauline was only 5 years old.
A picture that could be Carls mother and father and sister was taken by B. Schlenk, Reichenbach, Schlesia on Breslaustrasse. There are several Reichenbach towns listed in the Gazetteer. It is surmised that the Reichenbach mentioned in the frame containing a picture of Carls family is either the town (now called Dzierzoniow) 30 miles south-southwest of Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland in lower Silesia) or the town in the east central Germany area of Lower Silesia (now in Saxony, in Upper Lusatia, eight miles west of Grlitz on the German-Polish border in a lignite-mining region). If Carls dad died in a coal-mining accident, then the second town could be the one that Carl came from. On the other hand, the street was Breslaustrasse and that could mean that the town of Reichenbach (now Dzierzoniow) was near Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland in lower Silesia). These two Reichenbach towns are about 60 to 75 miles from each other.
If the Reichenbach town that Carl came from was near Breslau then the following information might be of interest. Wroclaw (was Breslau) is a large industrial city on the Ober River, 180 miles east of Berlin and 190 miles southwest of Warsaw. During World War II, 65% of the city was destroyed. The city was taken by the Soviet forces after a prolonged siege on May 9, 1945. After World War II, German inhabitants were expelled and Poles, chiefly from Lvov and Vilna settled here. In 1993, the population was estimated to be 644,000. Schlinsog relatives (related to Tischer-Handke ancestors) who traveled to eastern Germany and Poland found that many German churches, church records, and cemeteries were destroyed by Russians when they came through during and after World War II.
Carl Lustigs older sister, Christina Pauline Lustig, was born in Oherglauche or Obertlauche, Silesia, Prussia, so it is possible that Carl was also born here. That may also be the town that Carl grew up in. If that is the case, then the Reichenbach, where the picture was taken of Carls parents and sister, must be near Oherglauche or Obertlauche, Silesia.
Christine Heller - Mother of Carl August Lustig
Christina Heller was born on October 20, 1844 (or October 21, 1844 according to another obituary) in Germany. She married August Lustig in Germany sometime before 1870 when they had their first child, Christina Pauline Lustig. Her husband died in 1875 (or 1876) when Pauline was 5 years old and Carl was not yet born. She managed to keep her family alive by working in the fields until she was able to emigrate in 1892 with her two children to Clinton Falls, Minnesota, apparently sponsored by her brother, August Heller, who was a farmer in Clinton Falls. Christina was 48, Pauline, 24 and Carl, 16 years old when they came to the United States.
Christina (Heller) Lustig remarried in 1892 in Minnesota to Gottlieb Vietze (who died April 1910; emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1880; had three sons by a previous marriage: Gottlieb, William, and August). She lived with him on his farm until his death in 1910 when she went to live with her son Carl Lustig. Later, she lived with her brother, August Heller, with whom she lived until 1918, when he died. Afterward, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and William Priebe. Christina died on November 23, 1929 shortly after her daughter Pauline died.
Carls mother (Christina Heller Lustig) was thin and wiry like Bertha Lustig Lawson; Bertha reminded Ted Lustig, Sr. of his Dads mother both in build and temperament.
The father of Christina Heller Lustig Vietze was John Heller and her brother was August Heller. August Heller (born March 31, 1847 in Germany) emigrated to Minnesota in 1875 at the age of 28. August Heller married Suzanna Vietze in Germany on 1873. In the 1880 census, August is listed as a farmer (age 33) with his wife Susanna (age 35, September 23, 1844-October 10, 1898) and his father John (age 67, June 30, 1813 or 1818-February 3, 1896). In the 1885 census, the same people are listed as living together. In the 1900 census, August and Susanna A. are listed with their children, Herman (born December 1886), Albert (born 1892), and Walter (born January 1896). In the 1879 and 1897 landowners record for Clinton Falls Township, A. Hellar was listed as owning 40 acres of land in Section 34. August died on November 31, 1918 in Owatonna, Minnesota leaving no family. In his obituary, it was said that he was survived by his sister Christine Christina Vietze (daughter of John Heller), his niece Christina Pauline Lustig Priebe, and his nephew Carl Lustig. John and Susanna Heller (father and wife to August Heller) are buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery. If John Heller was also the father to Carls mother, then John Heller would be our Great-great grandfather. Suzanna Vietze (wife of August Heller) and Gottlieb Vietze (second husband of Christina Heller), both born in Germany, were probably related, perhaps brother and sister. Gottlieb came to the United States in 1880 and died on April 9, 1910 near Clinton Falls.
Carl Lustigs older sister, Christina Pauline Lustig (called Pauline by Ted Lustig, Sr. and Christie in her obituary), was born on January 1, 1870 in Oherglauche or Obertlauche, Silesia, Prussia. Pauline was 5 years old in 1875 (or 1876) when her father died and 24 years old in 1892 when she came to Clinton Falls, Minnesota with her mother Christina Heller Lustig and her brother Carl Lustig. She was 46 years old when she married William Priebe (or Prieb) on July 6, 1916 and 59 years old when she died on Sunday, November 14, 1929 of liver and kidney failure. Her pallbearers were Edward, Richard, Theodore, and William Lustig and Emil and William Kriesel. Pauline and William Priebe had no children of their own but William Priebe had three sons and four daughters. In his obituary, he was survived by his sons: Carl and Arthur of Owatonna and Raymond of Minneapolis; his daughters: Mrs. Joseph Skalicky, Mrs. Adolph Weber, Mrs. Carl Sette, and Mrs. Charles Miller, all of Owatonna and 13 grandchildren. William Priebe was born on February 9, 1865 in Germany, emigrated to the United States in 1885, and died on April 16, 1937 in Clinton Falls, Minnesota.
Many of the Lustigs and Hellers are either buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery or the St. Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery (also known as the German Lutheran Church). Much of the information on the Lustigs and Hellers was found by Dianne Lawson at the Steele County Historical Society, Steele County Court House in Minnesota, and cemetery records in 1999.
Anna Augusta Tischer (April 5, 1883 - June 8, 1947)
Anna Tischer was born on April 5, 1883 in Owatonna, Minnesota to August and Christina Tischer. She was only five years old when her mother died in June 1888. Her father remarried in September 1888 to Emelia Hoffman. Anna married Carl Lustig on November 22, 1904 and had 11 children. She died on June 8, 1947 at the age of 64.
Memories of Anna Tischer Lustig was that she was a wonderful, loving person. There is a picture of her holding some cats that shows her love of animals as well.
August Tischer - Father of Anna Augusta Tischer
August Tischer (April 24, 1854-March 11, 1929; born April 1853 according to 1900 census) was four years old in 1858 (or 1865 according to the 1900 census) when he came to Granton, Wisconsin from Germany (born in Preusen, Schlesien, according to church records) with his parents, Gottlieb and Susanna Tischer, his brother Carl, and his sister Lena (Helena or Helen). August was seven years old when his Father died. Augusts mother Susanna remarried Ernest Gershmalle (or Gersmehle or Gersmehl), had several children (one of which was Louis Gershmalle) and she stayed in Granton, Wisconsin.
August Tischer worked on a farm in Iowa as a young man. August married Christina Handke on February 6 or 8, 1876 at the Zion American Lutheran Church, Granton, Wisconsin (February 8, 1876 according to church records). At some point, August moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, and had their only daughter Anna and only son William. Christina became ill and died of milk feveron June 3, 1888 in Steele County when Anna was only five years old. An infant son, Henry William, (born January 13, 1888 ) died on August 22, 1888 of infantile cholera at the age of seven months and 15 days, almost three months after his mother died. [Note: According to the memories of Tischer relatives in Oklahoma, August Tischer first settled in Iowa buying 80 acres there and marrying Christine Handke. While still in Iowa, Christina became ill and he lost his farm as a result of a drought and doctor bills. At that point, he moved to Minnesota and brought some land because it was cheaper there. He had one daughter, Anna, with his first wife and she accompanied him to Minnesota.]
On September 13, 1888, August Tischer remarried; he married Emelia (or Amelia) A. Hoffman of Deerfield, Minnesota (born in Germany on April 4, 1873 or 1870 according to the 1900 census, came to the United States when she was small). Emelias mother died when she and her sister, Emma Lehman, were three to five years old. Emelias father remarried and he had six sons and two daughters with this marriage: Emil, Albert, Ted, Otto, Herman, and Bill Hoffman, Mary Hoffman (Rost, according to Lois Backhaus) and Martha Hoffman (Schwantes). Emelia Hoffman Tischer died in her apartment at 316 Division, Guthrie, Oklahoma on May 19, 1958 at the age of 85 years old.
In 1908, August Tischer moved his family to Guthrie, Oklahoma. Before August Tischer moved to Oklahoma, he came to Guthrie to build a house and barn. August died on March 11, 1929 in his orchard while pruning fruit trees.
With his second wife, Emelia, August Tischer had three additional children who lived beyond infancy (E.L. Tischer lived 12 days and died October 16, 1889; another son also died in infancy) who were half-brothers and a sister to Anna Augusta Tischer. Their daughter, Ida, was born on April 13, 1892, married Fred William Backhaus (who died February 3, 1971) on June 17, 1914 and they had Walter (married Irene and had Walter, Jr. and ?) and Marvin (married Lois and had Carol, Marcella, Paul, and Janet). Ida died on June 20, 1973. Their oldest son that lived beyond infancy, Albert, was born on February 20, 1895, married Lorene Stuenkel in December 1951, had no children, and died on May 7, 1965. Their last son, Louis, was born March 19, 1899, married Marie Hallman on June 7, 1942, had Louis John and Victor Edward, and died in 1983. Louiss wife, Marie Hallman Backhaus, died in a car accident on February 11, 1975.
August Tischer had at least one younger brother (Carl Henry) and one sister Susanna Helena (Lena or Helen) who came to Granton, Wisconsin with August and his parents in 1858 (or 1865, according to Carls obituary).
Augusts brother, Carl Henry Tischer (born July 14, 1859 in Germany, died January 5, 1924 in Minnesota), lived in Granton, Wisconsin until he settled in Minnesota in 1880, buying a farm next to August Tischer, one mile and one-half north of Owatonna. In 1886, Carl Tischer married Mary E. Hoffman (1864-December 20, 1949) of Deerfield, Minnesota (perhaps a half-sister to Augusts second wife, Emelia Hoffman). The witnesses to their marriage were Ernest Gersmehle (step-father to Carl and August Tischer) and Emil Hoffman (half-brother to Mary Hoffman). Carl Tischer had at least seven children, one of whom apparently died as an infant (could be Herman Tischer, 12 days old, probably died May 10, 1887 and not March 10, 1897 as stated in the Forest Hill Cemetery Record Book). He moved to the city of Owatonna in 1919. Apparently, Carl was known as Charles because the obituary and the cemetery records list Mrs. Louis (Clara) Malkow as a daughter of Charles or Carl. The children listed in the obituary for Charles are Mrs. Miller of Dodge Center, Mrs. Emma Sieverd of Deerfield, Mrs. Clara Malkow of this City, Misses Bertha and Elsie Tischer of St. Paul, and one son, Henry Tischer, at home. Henry C. Tischer (February 3, 1907-July 1, 1937) drown in Cedar Lake near Faribault, Minnesota. In his obituary, he is survived by his wife, Ruth Christianson whom he married on August 7, 1934, four month old son Kenneth, his mother Mary Tischer, and five sisters: Mrs. Carl Siewert (Mrs. Emma Sieverd?) of Deerfield township, Mrs. Carl (Louise?) Mueller (Mrs. Miller?) of Dodge Center, Mrs. Clara (Louis or Lewis) Malkow of this City, Mrs. William (Bertha or Elsie) Chapell of Chicago, and Mrs. S.O. (Bertha or Elsie) Lewis of Alberta Lea. Clara Malkow died on July 24, 1947 and was survived by her son Elmer Malkow.
Another brother of August Tischer, Wilhelm (or William, born August 1874), stayed in Germany at first and then came to the United States in 1889 (according to the 1900 census), stayed for over 10 years in Minnesota working as a day laborer, and then returned to Germany after the 1900 census.
The Tischers who moved from Granton, Wisconsin to Owatonna, Minnesota are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery. Much of the information on Carl Tischer (also recorded as Fisher) were found by Dianne Lawson at the Steele County Historical Society and Steele County Court House in Minnesota in 1999.
August Tischers sister, Susanna Helena Tischer (June 19, 1852-June 30, 1945), married Adolph Schlinsog (November 14, 1848-July 1, 1932) on April (or February) 12, 1884 in Wisconsin. Prior to her marriage to Adolph Schlinsog, Helena Tischer was a sponsor for children of William and Anna (Khn) Handke (father of Christina Handke Tischer) and of Friedrich and Ernestine (Handke) Schulz (sister of Christina Handke) in 1877 and 1880. Susanna Helena Tischer and Adolph Schlinsog had three children, Martha Schlinsog (married Fred Lichte and had five children), Albert Schlinsog (married Martha Schaller and had two children), and Margaret Marie Schlinsog (married August Schlinsog, Jr., the second son of Pauline Handke and August Schlinsog; Adolph and August were not related). A sister of Adolph Schlinsog, Caroline Pauline Schlinsog (November 24, 1851-February 16, 1939), married Ernest Friedrich Lustig (April 25, 1839 to December 24, 1898) on June 12, 1869 with whom she had six children, one of who was Otto Lustig (the fifth child; February 10, 1882-March 2, 1911) who married Anna Karoline Schlinsog, the seventh child of Pauline and August Schlinsog . The Schlinsogs would like to know more about the heritage of these Lustigs. The Zion American Lutheran Church records list Daniel and Anna Lustig from Schlesia as the parents of Ernest Lustig. Most of the information on Helen Tischer was provided by Bill Schlinsog, our third cousin through our other third cousins from Granton, Wisconsin.
Much of the information on August Tischer and his family was found in a letter from Lois Backhaus (daughter-in-law of Ida Tischer Backhaus who was a half-sister to Anna Tischer Lustig) written on May 19, 1983 to Ted and Alvera Lustig and in information from the Steele County Court House records provided by Dianne Lawson in 1999.
Christina Handke - Mother of Anna Augusta Tischer
Christina (Christine, Christane, or Christiane) Handke was born on March 28, 1852 in Germany and was the daughter of William (or Wilhelm) Friedrick Handke (or Hanke, Hankey, or Handtke; March 6, 1824-December 25, 1897) and the first wife of William, Juliane Febert (or Vollbrecht, Falbrich, or Ferbert who died in 1864 in Germany). Williams mother was Anna Louise Rademaker Handke (February 2, 1800-September 29, 1885) who had nine children with Mr. Handke, four of whom (Gottlieb, Anna who married Karl Roder, Hannah who married a Mr. Nitschke, and William) came to the United States. Five brothers of William Handke stayed in Germany. Williams mother came to Granton at a later date than William Handke and lived with her daughter, Anna Handke Roder, until her death. According to church records, Anna Rademaker Handke died in the Town of Grant, Wisconsin at the age of 85.
William and Juliane (Febert) Handke had at least five children (Auguste Pauline, our Christina, Ernestina Wilhelmine Juliane, Gustav, and Carl Friedrich). Williams second wife died of a heart attack (she had no children) and then he remarried a third time to Anna Susanna Khn (also Kuehn, Kulne) who had at least six children, but only two while they were still in Germany. Anna Susanna was known as Karoline by her relatives and descendants. The children of William and Anna Susanna Handke and half-sisters and brothers to Christina were Karoline G. (known as Carrie; unknown birth and death dates but married August Dankemaier (Dankemeyer or Denkemeier) and may have had five children (Freeman, a step-son; Martin August David, born 1891; Wilhelm Karl, born December 5, 1893; Hanna Emilie Margaretha, born April 16, 1898; and Leo Arthur Christian, born 1904); Henretta Louise Bertha (1869-1873); Wilhelmine Alvina (1872-1873); Anna Louise Bertha (1874-1887); Friedrich Wilhelm Herman (1877-1950, married Lena Keuer and had four children: Martha Ure Magdaline, Clara Anna Marie, Elmer Friedrich, and Fred, Jr.); and Ernst Otto Edward (1881-?).
William Handke came to New York City (NYC), New York in 1871 from the province of Schlesian (or Schlesia). Wohlenhagen is associated with the place of origin for William Handke according to church records when his daughter Ernestine was married on August 9, 1877 to Friedrich Schulz (other place names or words in the same record are Larrig, Regt, Stettin, Schlesian). Stettin is now Szczecin, Poland, a city that is connected by water to the Baltic Sea (perhaps the port of departure for William Handke to the United States). William Handke emigrated to the United States with his third wife Anna Susanna, their first two children, Karoline G., Henretta Louise (born June 11, 1869), and his five children (including our Christina) from his first wife, Juliane. William worked in NYC for several weeks to get enough money to continue his journey to Wisconsin where he wanted to join up with other friends who had gone there ahead of him. From NYC, William Handke and his family traveled by train to Wisconsin and purchased wild land that had to be cleared in Shortville Community, Clark County, nine miles south of Granton, Wisconsin. Later he bought land in Lyn Township, three miles east of Granton. William was a man known for great courage and strength. He was a pioneer member of the Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton that is still there. William died of a hernia in 1897. His gravestone along with his wife in the Zion American Lutheran Church cemetery has William F. Hankey, 1829-1897 and Anna S. Hankey, 1840-1933). Williams son Carl is buried there as Karl Friedrich Handke, August 21, 1859 to August 28, 1889.
The stories of the children of William Handke and Juliane Febert are as follows:
Auguste Pauline Hanke (known as Pauline; November 2, 1851- May 21, 1929) married Carl August Schlinsog (known as August; August 11, 1837 to February 1928)) on September 29, 1872 and had eight children
 Christina Handke (March 28, 1852-June 3, 1888) married August Tischer and had only one child that lived beyond infancy, our Anna;
 Ernestine Wilhelmine Juliane Handke (born January 28, 1855) married Friedrich Schulz on August 9, 1877 and had four children;
Gustav (a deaf mute who died in the 1930's without any children); and
Carl Friedrich Wilhelm (August 24, 1859-June 28, 1889 who was murdered in a lumber camp and had no children).
Pauline and August Schlinsog settled on a farm three miles south of Granton, Wisconsin and raised eight children there. One of the daughters of Pauline and August Schlinsog, Anna Karoline, married Otto Lustig in 1907 and had three children, Ervin (born January 24, 1908), Adelia (born March 16, 1909), and Ernest (born July 7, 1910). Ervin had four children and lived in Wheaton, Illinois until he retired in Port Charlotte, Florida in 1970; Adelia had six children with Edwin Grobe; and Ernest had three children. Pauline (Handke) Schlinsog died at the home of her daughter, Anna Karoline Schlinsog (who married Otto Lustig and then Fred Frank after Otto died). For more details, see History of the August Schlinsog Family, by Alma Schlinsog Snyder, 1967. The Schlinsogs would like to know more about the heritage of these Lustigs.
The August Schlinsogs (son of Pauline Handke Schlinsog) and Ernest and Martha Ernestine Neinas (daughter of Pauline Handke Schlinsog and sister of August Schlinsog) came to Owatonna in 1930 or 1931 to visit the Lustig family. Alma Schlinsog Snyder also remembers that (1) her sister Lillian (Schlinsog) Heimke (daughter of Pauline Handke Schlinsog) and the Albert Schlinsogs (son of Helen Tischer Schlinsog) visited the Richard Lustigs in 1936 in Owatonna, Minnesota, (2) Lillian and her husband, Hans, came to Carl Lustigs funeral in 1949, and (3) after the funeral, Ida Backhaus came along with Lillian and her husband to visit the Albert Schlinsogs in Granton, Wisconsin.
Information on William Handkes descendants and relatives can be found in History of the August Schlinsog Family by Alma Schlinsog Snyder (unfortunately, Alma died on February 15, 1985 so we never had a chance to meet her) , The Schlinsog genealogy by William H. Schlinsog [no date], Zion American Lutheran , Town of Grant, 1964, and Granton Community Memories, 1856-1976". The Zion American Lutheran Church is still standing and has church records of our families. Several ancestors are buried in the church cemetery, including William Handke. The Schlinsog family has a reunion every other year--July 2000 should be the date for the next picnic. Contact is William Schlinsog (608-831-5531). Alma Schlinsog Snyder sent a letter to Roz Schnick on April 17, 1984 that provided a lot of information that resolved questions raised in her history.
We, Rosalie and Ron Schnick, were given a copy of History of the August Schlinsog Family on March 18, 1984 from Marcella (Brekke) Lustig. She received it from Alma Schlinsog Snyder in 1971. Alma sent a letter to Marcella Lustig in March 7, 1971 thanking her for the additional information that she did not have in 1967 when Alma wrote her history (that apparently is why the information on Christina Handke was included at a later date on a slip of paper. Based on that document, we visited Granton, Wisconsin for the first time on Saturday, March 24, 1984. We visited the Zion American Lutheran Church and looked at church records that had a lot of our familys birth, baptism, confirmation, and death notices. The cemetery has our William Handke buried there, along with other relatives. We were introduced to Emil and Loraine Schlinsog (Emil died in 1990), second cousins to Carl and Anna Lustigs children (e.g., Richard, Ted, Bill, Paul, Bertha, etc.). We spent two lovely hours with them and they shared their family history as well (The Schlinsog Genealogy) with us that included information on the Tischers and Lustigs. We, along with my sister, Marilyn Lustig, went to the Schlinsog family picnic that year (July 15, 1984) and there was great interest in whether us Lustigs were related to the Lustigs (Ernest and Otto) in their family. We do not think that we are related. We have not been to Granton for any picnic since 1984. Bill Schlinsog will continue to organize future Schlinsog family reunions.
We hosted a family reunion of the Lustig-Tischer family on Saturday, July 24, 1999 at 3039 Edgewater Lane, La Crosse, Wisconsin. The 28 family members and friends who came were as follows:
Children, spouses, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter of Dick and Marcella Lustig--Phyliss and Bob Johnson, Lois Erdman, Sharon and Scot Cinnamon, Richard and Dorothy Lustig and their son Rick Lustig with his daughter Rhianne
Parents, Ted and Alvera Lustig, and their children, one spouse, and one friend: Rosalie and Ron Schnick, Marilyn Lustig and Paulette Joyer, and Ted Lustig, Jr.
Grandson and fiance of Bill and Ann Lustig: Kyle Lustig and Becky who were married in August 2000
Parent, Margaret Eaker (widow of Paul Lustig) and her sons and one spouse: John and Jeanette Lustig and Don Lustig
Son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter (with friend) of Bertha and Alvin Pat Lawson: Gary and Dianne Lawson and Allison Lawson and Jared (?)
Bill and Jeanette Schlinsog, third cousins to the descendants of both Helen Tischer Schlinsog (sister of our great grandfather August Tischer) and Pauline Handke Schlinsog (sister of our great grandmother, Christina Handke Tischer)

11 (F) Name: Viola Edna Lustig
Born: 6-22-1923 in Steele County, Clinton Falls, MN
An article on Viola appeared in a 1998 publication from the Owatonna Health Care Center: "Viola Edna Lustig is our featured resident of the month. Viola likes to be called Vi. She came to Owatonna Health Care Center in September of 1972. Vi is a very happy 75 year old young lady. She has lived with us at OHCC for 26 years, and from which she has made many new friends and touched many lives.
Vi was born June 22, 1923. She was the youngest child in a family of 11, 6 boys and 5 girls. She had a twin sister named Lila. When Vi was just a little girl she enjoyed looking at catalogs and playing with her favorite brothers Ted and Dick. Among the things Vi likes to do is go outdoors. She also likes to visit with her many good friends, play bingo, go to the fair and eat donuts and cotton candy. She enjoys listening to music and loves The Blue Skirt Waltz, especially when it is sung by the Czechmates. Her favorite foods are chocolate, Pepsi, Cherry Lifesavers in her coffee, cheese sandwiches and even a little beer every now and then. Vi has two sisters who reside here at OHCC, Bertha Lawson and Emma Buelow. Vi has become just like family to many of the staff. Some have taken her home with them for holidays, and share many of their family gatherings with her such as weddings and birthdays.
We thank you Vi for all the joy you bring us."
