| Prior to starting the experiment | Find a sunny location where the project can be left safely. For classes experimenting with artifical light, set up a growth chamber (table top or well supported shelf that can be enclosed using cardboard or dard plastic sheeting. To enhance light reflection surrond the shelf on three sides with stiff white paper. Assemble all the materials and any other equipment you feel you need or want to conduct the project. |
| Week 1 | Day 1 : Wet a tissue or a section of paper towel and sprinkle on some basil seeds. Place the tissue/paper towel in a plastic bag and seal. Place the bag in a warm bright spot.The basil seeds should sprout in a few days. After the seeds sprout select two seedlings and place one in the hydroponic planter and the other in the TerraAqua planter. Be sure to remember to fill out your worksheet and email your data to: [email protected]

| Weeks 2-5 | Feed and nurish your plants as needed. Using the Hydroponics vs Soil Worksheet record the height of the plants and the number of leaves each week on the same day that you began the experiment. Please email your growth data to [email protected] each week. Note: You may want to take or draw a picture of both plants each week to record their growth.

| Week 6 | At the end of the six week period please take a picture of your plants and save them in either JPEG or Gif format. Attach your photos to your Week 6 growth data and email data and photos to: [email protected]
