The AFL is set to change the face of pro football forever.  The Arena Football League will kick off it's first season in league history this weekend when the Albany Firebirds travel to Nashville Tennessee to take the Nashville Kats at the Gaylord Entertainment Center.  The AFL will field 17 teams in 12 states nation wide. The Albany Firebird vs. The Nashville Kats will be the first game of a 15 week schedule that will lead up to the Arena Bowl Play-offs and finally the Arena Bowl Championship Game where the league will crown it's first ever league champions.  The 15 week season will also have a bye week for 1 team a week with the exception of the final week of the regular season when 3 teams will have that week off.

that need a football fix while the NFL is in the off-season"
said League Owner Steve Rutkowski.

The AFL today announced the format for there 1st play-offs in league history.  12 of the 17 teams will make the play-offs with 4 total rounds.
 
Wildcard Round
Divisional Round
Conference Round
Arena Bowl Championship
 
The Seeds will break down as follows:
The Division winner will get a bye week and not play in the first round.
 
The Division winner will also be ranked # 1 - 4
based on there regular season record.
 
Seeds # 5 - 12 will be based on the rest of the regular season records and break down game wise as follows:
 
# 12 vs. # 5
# 11 vs. # 6
# 10 vs. # 7
# 9 vs. # 8
 
The winners of these game will go on to face the top four teams in the league and would go as follows:
 
# 1 against Lowest Seed
# 2 against 2nd Lowest Seed
# 3 and 3rd Lowest Seed
# 4 against 4th Lowest Seed
