The Sheik was one of the top heels for Verne Gagne's AWA during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Before (and after for that matter) he was the WWF's controversial General Adnan during the Gulf war and managing Sgt Slaughter, Sheik Adnan El-Kaisee was working independents in Minnesota, primarily in a promotion called Pro Wrestling America. He was appearing on a local wrestling show, Saturday Night at Ringside, a "wrap-around" show, hosted by Mick Karch, that taped local segments and interspersed them among the syndicated WCW and USWA/GWF programs.

He now is a promoter, owning the World All-Star Wrestling Alliance along with Ken Patera. He also managed on those shows. He worked as Indian star Billy White Wolf in WWWF in the 1970s.
