Notes for JOHN CALKINS:
John Calkins studied for the bar and became a lawyer in Rockford,
Illinois -in an area call e d Twelve Mile Grove (Pecatonica). Some of his
clients were of a Welsh community who were n o t too trusting of lawyers
in their new country. This information came from comments of Abig ai l
Welles Calkins (widow of John Franklin Calkins). John Calkins built the
first house in R ock ford IL in 1841. This according to th obituary of
Homer Calkins in Milford, Iowa.

listed the opposite to match up with births, deaths, and the move of the
