GAMES, Computer

In the days when the only computer time available was late at night, an amazing number of otherwise intelligent, well intentioned people lost sleep, friends, and sanity writing game programs. These were not prescient geniuses who knew that someday there would be a financial reward for a present sacrifice. The addictive potential of playing computer games is now well known. The addictive nature of computer programming became evident sooner, but the combination is very powerful.

Often these midnight miscreants were very bright people who lacked sufficient credentials to be trusted with real engineering or business procedures important enough to require expensive computers. The individuals who knew how to write programs generally weren't being told what needed to be done. They started using computers to amuse themselves and got hooked.
