The Walk: |
The walk is the slowest gait. And it is a four-beat rhythm. There is no moment of suspension in the walk. |

The Trot: |
The trot is an active two-beat gait with the legs moving in diagonal pairs, the horse springing from one pair to the other. It has a moment of suspension when the horse has all four feet off the ground. |

The Canter: |
The canter is a three-beat gait and has a moment of suspension at the end of each stride, a stride being regarded as one full sequence. The horse may "appear" to lead with either foreleg. |

The Gallop |
The gallop is very fast four-beat gait which is a natural extension of the canter. With a suspension. |
