"You know men and women are funny." Jack said arriving at Daniel's lab and slumping onto a chair. Daniel looked up surprised. Jack had a habit of this, coming up with a comment completely out of the blue.
"Okaaay." Daniel said and carried on writing his report. He was doing it by hand as his computer had crashed. Apparently he had too many windows open at once.
"Seriously they are." Jack said shifting in his chair.
"Although we try to deny it at times, we can't live without each other." Jack said, not particularly to Daniel but just to say it. Daniel smiled. Jack had been like this since he'd got together with Sam. He swore that he hadn't seen either of them happier since he'd known them.
"Have you noticed how there are so many little things that we love about them." Jack said.
"Such as?" Daniel asked.
"Lots of things. For example the way I feel when I see her name on the caller ID after we've just had a big fight."
"Oh I see. Did you two have a fight and make up?" Daniel asked looking up from his report.
"No. Just an example. I mean, it's not possible to narrow it down to one thing that we love about them." Jack explained.
Daniel smiled and let his thoughts drift to Sha're and the things he loved about her.
"I loved the ease Sha're fit into my arms." He said wistfully.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. But god, what I really love about Sam is her smile.
Whether it's a private one, just for me, or a purely happy one that makes you feel good inside."
"Or the way they kiss you and suddenly everything's alright in the world."
"And she looks so cute when she sleeps."
"Oh what's cute is the way they hit you an expect it to hurt." Daniel laughed.
"The way they apologise when it does hurt!" added Jack. They both laughed.
"And have you noticed how they always smell so good? Even if it's just shampoo or stuff." Jack asked.
Daniel smiled and gave a small nod.
"There was a plant on Abydos that Sha're liked to wear in her hair. It was a rich, sweet kinda smell, warm too."
"They always seem to be warm, even when it's minus 30 outside."
Sam smiled as she watched this interchange and decided to interrupt at last. If she listened to any more of these compliments Jack was throwing around her head would explode. She coughed politely.
"Sam! How long have you been standing there?" Jack said spinning around suddenly
"Oh long enough."
"I actually have some stuff I need to do." Daniel said hurrying out with an armload of papers. Sam fondly watched him go then turned to Jack who was searching her face for some kind of emotion. She tried to hold back her smile but failed spectacularly, letting out a short laugh too.
She took a step towards him and looked right up into his eyes.
"That sure was a lot of reasons."
"Yeah I guess." Jack said carefully, not sure if he'd done something to upset her. Maybe he shouldn't have being talking to Daniel about her.
"You wanna know something I love about you." She said keeping her voice neutral.
"Okay why not."
"How cute you are when you think you've done something wrong." She giggled. Jack inwardly sighed with relief and outwardly rolled his eyes.
"Gee thanks."
