The proposal...

On a cold night in December...

About 20 people had gathered at a friend's home for an annual Christmas get-together of Mike's reenacting unit on December 2, '07. More friends, plus their 'significant others' had been invited for the special occasion, and the room was full of men in sharp uniforms, beautiful ladies all dressed up, lovely 40s music, and the smell of delicious homemade food that the men had cooked for the party.

Mike had drawn everyone's attention as he handed out gifts (soaps that he and I had hand-made together), and when the last one had been given out, people began to turn back to their food and previous conversations. But just then Mike called for their attention again, saying that there was one more gift... when he said that he looked at me with a huge, happy smile, and I could tell this was going to be big! I had no suspision of a proposal, as he and I had recently discussed finances and he had led me to believe he wouldn't be able to afford a ring any time soon, and could I wait until Spring to take that step?

But here he was, coming over to where I was sitting, tall and handsome in his uniform, reaching into his pocket for a little velvet box, and kneeling before me! I was quite shocked, my hands flew to my face, and I could feel my eyes tearing up. Mike was choked up as well, and after a slight hesitation he finally said, "I had a lot I wanted to say, but I... I... will you marry me?

Speachless, I flung my arms around him, and after a few minutes of smiles, applause, etc, everyone started calling out, "Well, what's your answer??"

"Yes!"
