NOTE:

This poem was written for my friend TUFF when her mother passed away. She read it at the funeral.

(TUFF is the woman whose pants I tried to get into with poetry.)

This dedication to Mom is for, not only TUFF, but all of those who have lost a mother.

Memories Of Mom

Written by MAD (Dennis Francis) © 2004

It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday

It’s so hard to say hello to tomorrow without you

You’ve been there every step

Over the years

Comforting tears, calming fears

You reared children from infants to adolescents to present

but we’ll always be your babies, Mom

M-O-M

The world’s most special name

So special, spell it backwards and it remains the same

Even when life has unexpectedly changed

Motherly love reliably remains

Our hearts’ pain isn’t shallow

because our love is so deep

Its reach will extend into the hereafter

Where one day we’ll reunite and recapture shared laughter

Rekindle the physical bond now gone

Rejoice for no longer having to mourn

Your premature leaving

But until then we’ll be weeping

bereaving a Mom for all seasons

Our warmth in the Winter

Our cool breeze in the Summer

The melody the birds sing in the Spring

The colors of Fall that decorated our world

Priceless Mother of Pearl

Renaissance woman and Jane of all trades

When grief gets too heavy some days

The remedy will be the memory of your life

which is cause for celebration

check the mailbox in Heaven

for this letter of appreciation

for being our inspiration

Can’t stop thanking you

for all your unconditional affection

intuitive direction and unwavering protection

And I’m guessing

Guardian Angel will be your new profession up there

While you live on through us down here

Living and giving to others what you gave us

A love anybody could trust and never get enough

Because it’s immeasurable and all so memorable
