WOW!
It’s almost been 2 months since I updated this food log. I guess the reason
for that is I had a serious relapse and became so engrossed in eating “mass
quantities” that the food log would only have served as a constant guilty
reminder of my total lack of discipline. As far as particulars are concerned,
I did a lot of pizza and Italian parmigania dishes. Plenty of sweets too, as
well as soda, kool aid and other sweet beverages. Grey Papaya’s hot dogs with
all the works factored in. But more than the damage done to my gut, my
already cash strapped pocket took a serious hit. I was spending money I knew
I needed for other stuff on food. Honestly (and it’s scary to admit this),
but my behavior was not too much different from a drug addict. It’s just that
I was hitting the fork instead of the
pipe. When October began, I felt a little bit of motivation creep in me and I
used it to try to right this ship. I haven’t set any dietary/physical
activity guidelines for myself as of yet, but generally I just want to eat 3
meals a day (choice of food is still rather liberal for now), refrain from
late night eating, drink water and move around a little each day. Once I’ve
done that for a spell and built up my confidence, I’ll switch to a more
formal program. Another goal will be to only eat food from home—no outside
purchases unless absolutely necessary—and with that comes a lot of repetition
in meals (oatmeal, pasta, rice, etc.) because that keeps grocery expenditures
low. For this reason (and also because I’m hoping there’s no more need to
tell you about days of all sorts of foods being consumed), I’m phasing out
this version of the food log. Any future food log entries will be included as
part of LIVE JOURNAL entries. And hopefully they will be short, concise and
rather boring in what they entail (because then that will mean I’m sticking
to a steady, controlled food intake regimen). All of the prior entries will
remain up and available for your viewing pleasure, so that you can contrast
them with my more disciplined present self and marvel at the turnaround. |

terrible meal for so many reasons—an excessive amount of food, eaten at 4am,
red meat, “murder burgers” will have me in bathroom, ruined a good day of
physical activity—I didn’t even enjoy it. not one of the burgers tasted good;
the manager said they were fresh, but my tastebuds told me that was a bunch
of bull shight.) Note:
The Devil got the best of me. It hurt so bad to see a grueling 1 hr, 42 min
walk end in a weak submission to this temptation. Earlier in the walk Satan
tempted me with Dunkin Donuts and a diner, but I had managed to resist. But
alas that bastard Belzebub bested me the third go around. It feels so much
like trying to get off drugs, these struggles I have with food. And this here
was just ANOTHER relapse AGAIN in a long line of many. All I can do is try to
pick myself up and keep trying. 2)

last few entries I listed fresh baked pretzels, but I haven’t mentioned the
VOLUME I’ve woofed down. I’m inhaling at least a bag of 6 a day. These are
those pretzels you get from the frozen section in the supermarket. You
slightly wet them, sprinkle on coarse salt and then bake in oven for about 6
min. They are D-Licious! And the fact that Pathmark has them on sale for $1
doesn’t help. This has become my fixation of the moment. |

NOTE 2 SELF: THINGS ARE
GETTING ROUGH You
can see from my last few entries that my cravings have got the best of me. I
was making some progress in controlling my
eating habits, but apparently I’m not as strong as I need to be. I can still
be tempted to indulge myself if in certain conditions
that aren’t conducive to my program. There has to be a poem somewhere within
my battle of the bulge because
I swear it’s a microcosm of the life-long battles we fight in this world—the
battle against racism, injustice, hunger, poverty,
evil, etc.—that all seem hopelessly un-winnable. So the fate of the world
rests upon my belly, my protruding, overlapping,
starting to show signs of pregnancy, belly. Ahh, I’ve been down this road so
many times before and each time I
come to a fork in it…I take it. So I’m all forked up. Need time to think.
Need time to re-group. I really want to start the New
Year on a much more disciplined tip (especially as far as food consumption is
concerned). |
TIP: I need to formulate a
standard weekly menu. Structure is important and I can achieve it by mapping
out all my eating in advance. I already have the beginning down
pat—OATMEAL—but I need good filling food for the rest of the day. |
