| Though, yes, I have a maniacal split personality, I'm a pretty average guy... despite the white hair and British accent. You see, my father, sister and I moved to Japan from England a long time ago, but now it's just Daddy... My mum and sister are both deceased. My mother died a long time ago--probably when I was but two years old. Daddy told me that she died of some sort of disease. Thank goodness he had me and Ayane... I fear he might not have been able to get through his sorrow without us. However, because of our comfort, he was able to overcome his sadness, and move on. But more problems were about to come our way. You see, Mum stayed home and took care of us while Daddy was on his archeological digs. Now we had a problem--while he was on the road, we wouldn't have anyone to take care of us. Since we were a desperate family, my father decided that we would just have to stay with a babysitter while he was away. For three years, this is how our life went... until the accident occured. My Aunt Sophie was going to bring Ayane on a vacation to England. I was too young to go, so I stayed behind. Daddy was able to stay with me, for he hadn't been assigned any "missions" lately. It was four days later when we both found out that Ayane's plane had crashed... and no one had survived. My father and I needed each other then more than ever. Together, we were able to stay strong, even after the deaths of the ones closest to us. Until I turned fourteen, I stayed with Rika, our old babysitter. When that faithful birthday finally came, Daddy wasn't home to celebrate with me, but he sent me a package from Egypt--the place he was currently visiting. He got me a golden necklace he called the "Millennium Ring". I was awed by it... It was incredibly beautiful, and looked expensive. My father told me that he had found it at a local bazaar, and that it had something to do with Duel Monsters, the popular new trading card game. That didn't make any sense to me, because the Ring appeared to be thousands of years old, and the card game wasn't at all from that time period. Shortly after I recieved the Millennium Ring, however, I began to have frequent fainting spells, and started to hear a voice speaking to me during the night. I tried to ignore my fears, but soon, terror consumed me, and I could no longer sleep. On one restless night, a translucent figure stepped into my room, and at first, I thought it was just my imagination playing tricks on me, but when I heard this thing's voice, I knew that I wasn't imagining things. "So you're the host," it had said. "Of course--Atem gets the good one, and I get this worthless mortal." The voice sounded just like the one in my mind. It greatly resembled me... down to even my clothes, though its hair was a bit more wild than mine. "Hey kid, stop gawking at me. Ever seen a spirit before?" I shook my head, paralyzed with terror. The twisted laughter made me even more uncomfortable. "Of course not. I hope you don't mind that I've been using your body to get around. Well, you're a sweet little brat... I'm sure you're not too upset." I couldn't believe my ears. "What are you, dead? Maybe THIS will wake you up..." Just then, I felt a horrid stabbing pain in my thigh. Blood gushed from the wound, and I screamed in half agony, half shock. "What!? How can you...? You're--a ghost! Stay away from me! You can't be real... you..." The thing walked up to me, and pushed me onto my back. It crawled on top of me, and leaned down, perhaps only two inches from my face. "That's right--you'd better scream. You'd better be afraid. Okay you idiot... listen to my words closely... My name is Rakikai, but pathetic scumbags like you can call me Yami, got it? Whether you like it or not, I will always be inside of you, waiting to strike... to kill... You are my little puppet... You will obey me!" And with more manaical laughter, he disappeared. He was gone. At first, I thought it was all just a bad dream, but after a while, I knew it wasn't... For after that, my entire life became a nightmare. |
