My
Academic Life
I pursued my Ph. D. program in the Department of
Chemistry, IIT Kanpur in the area of Solid State Chemistry, Nanomaterials.
My work was mainly based on the synthesis of transition metal nitrides, their
characterization and structure–property correlation. The compounds, I studied
were mainly pseudo–binary Iron based ferromagnetic materials along with some
ternary paramagnetic metallic nitride nanostructures. I used X-ray diffraction,
different electron microscopy techniques, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and
Photoluminescence for their characterization. For the magnetic interactions
study, low temperature SQUID and room temperature VSM were utilized. We have
also two Mössbauer Instruments in our laboratory, one
for low temperature measurements and the other for room temperature studies,
both with 57Co radioactive source. My Ph. D. thesis was about
magnetic interactions for nanoparticles/nanowires and
nanorods. The overall focus of the work was on the
concept of Nanotechnology, which is the biggest buzz in today’s world.
Next, I worked in Israel as
Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. Aharon Gedanken at Bar-Ilan University.
My work comprised of synthesizing mesoporous
materials by template-free methods, insertion of metal nanoparticles
inside mesoporous matrix and diluted magnetic
semiconductors in various shapes such as nanowires, nanorods, nanosheets and nanocrystals encapsulated with carbon shell.
Presently, I am at Drexel Nanotechnology Institute, USA working
with Professor Yury Gogotsi
on the W. M. Keck Foundation project on carbon based nano-carriers
for targeted drug delivery and interrogation of single cell organelles. The work
is in progress.
