This page is dedicated to anyone who has ever adopted a stray cat.
Blossom was accepted into our home after she had been abandoned, along with other cats by a neighbor when he moved away.
Blossie, as she became to be known, lived with us for approximately four years. We took her into our home which already had numerous pets. She became one of five other cats in the household. She never did appreciate what another cat's friendship could be and soon became a loner, shying away from our other family cats.
At first Penny and Taffy went out of their way to make friends with her. It soon became easier for them to play the game "Pester the newcomer" And Blossie never disappointed them with the dramatic howls and hisses in return. It got to be a little too much for her to handle so I left her have an area of the house where she would not have to be bothered with the overly rambunctious clan. She soon settled down in what was then the "rabbit" room, home to two house buns.
She didn't mind our dogs or even the rabbits. She just hated her own kind. I can almost understand that, since she was never given any attention of a positive nature from the other strays who would harrass her because she was neither male or female, but a spayed cat. I suppose she was much of an out-sider amongst the toms and queens who also frequently would make her the brunt of their hormones.
She did settle down as best she could with us and became a real PURR machine. She had the loudest purr of all of them and wasn't shy about dancing around and purring when we walked into her presence.
In December she became ill and we had to have her put to sleep. We weren't ever sure of her age, but she appeared to be a senior cat at the time of her illness. The veterinarian diagnosed her as having kidney failure and an enlarged liver. It had only been two months earlier that another of our beloved felines had to be euthanised.
We miss both Blossom and Jamie and will always have a place for them in our hearts. Pets endear themselves so closely to we mere humans that it is a real heart tug to see them leave us.
I just wanted to make a page where I could come with some of my friends and remember her as the dear little babe she will always be to me.
Gone but never to be forgotten.
