This is Sugar. We got her on Father's Day in 2002

She was one of the funniest and friendliest dogs we had ever had. From the time we brought her home,we knew she had a special reason for coming into our lives. On the way home from the Dog Days flea market where we had purchased her for a measley $20 we were trying to figure out what to name this little darling. As we drove we turned the radio on and the song played Sugar Sugar, ah Honey Honey. It is an OLDIE but gave us the inspiration we needed. We named her Sugar and it soon began to expand to Sugar Plum, Sugar bear and our favorite because of the size of her head "Big Giant Head" she seemed to know that one was an endearment and not a true name.

She continued on learning from our larger more experienced dog Corkie how to become the perfect family pet.

The following year we got her a new friend to add to the mix, Lucy. They were inseparable and if you saw one the other was close by both indoors and out.

In September Sugar got ill and started having a seizure now and then. Unlike some other dogs who only occasionally have a seizure she developed severe bouts with them. She was diagnosed with epilepsy and put onto medications. No combination seemed to work.

In December she succumbed to them and died on the way to the emergency animal hospital. It was such a quick ending to such a sweet friendship. We could hardly bare the pain. At first I was so sad she had gone, but the consolation of knowing I would not have to again make a choice of euthanasia for a pet helped a little. I was stuggling to decide what was best for her and God helped with the decision.

We are left saddened but much richer for the companionship we were given if only for a short time. Some of the best things in life are of the shortest duration. Hopefully as time goes by the memory of her last hours will fade and be replaced by all the happiness she brought to our lives." She left behind Lucy who would need to learn to find new friends. After playing non-stop for such a long time, Lucy needed to have that void filled with someone new. Not quite a bond like the one she and Sugar had yet, but there is hope. Enter Maggie Mae and the circle of life continues on.......
