Do I need to bring my dog's bed and bowls? No, we supply beds and stainless steel bowls that we sterilize between each use so we know they are clean. Our flooring is cushioned vinyl ( not concrete! ) and we supply blankets for your pets to snuggle with that are clean and fresh smelling. In the event that they knock a water bowl over or have wet paws from a rainy day they receive a fresh blanket right away.
We will be staying at one of the resorts in the Milford area and we'd like to board our pet with you and visit our pet during our vacation. Is this possible? We do not let owners visit their pets while they are boarded here as it upsets the other pets whose owners are away. Allowing visitors to drop by to visit would completely disrupt our kennel routine and our first concern is the well being of the pets boarded here. We suggest that you board your pet in your home town before you travel to our area especially in the summer months as traveling with a dog or cat in a car for many miles on a hot day is stressful for both pets and owners. We rarely accept any new pet out of our immediate Tri-State area as our kennel suites are always reserved for our regular clients first.
What is Bordatella and why is the vaccine required to board my dog? Bordatella ( kennel cough ) is infectious tracheo bronchitis and is caused by a bacteria called bordatella bronchiseptica. Bordatella is a VERY contagious bug and can be transmitted through the air when an infected dog coughs or it can be picked up from contamination in a dogs environment. Your dog does NOT need to be in a kennel to pick up this bug! Dogs can contract it from grooming shops, exposure to infected dogs in their walks or at dog parks, even at a vets office that has a patient waiting for treatment, etc. Bordatella can be treated with antibiotics and it takes 2 or 3 weeks of treatment. A simple solution to avoid the illness and the cost of treatment is to request a yearly bordatella vaccine when you take your dog into your vets for their yearly shots. The vaccine usually runs about 20.00 and is very cheap compared to the cost of treating kennel cough! We require the vaccine here to board your dog with us and we have never had a case of kennel cough at our kennel because we DO require the vaccine! Most other good kennels require it as well. Even if you do not plan to board your dog we strongly suggest you add this vaccine to your pets yearly shot schedule to protect your dog from exposure from others areas and unprotected pets!
Will my pet get alot of contact while boarded? Yes, all dogs are handwalked about every 2 hours here from 6am to about 10pm and they also get play time in our play yards where they are free to run around one at a time. We never leave a dog unattended outside at our facility! This is the main reason that we only accept very friendly dogs at our facility as they are handled on a regular basis. They do not have to like other dogs as they have no contact with them but they must like people! Cats are in cat suites located on the mid floor level. Tv's are on all levels so the pets can hear them.
We have 2 dogs. Can they share the same room? It depends on the size and personality of the dogs. In most cases we find that 2 dogs from the same family often have "issues" at feeding time ( unless they are used to "free choice" meaning food is left down at all times) and need to be separated anyway. As there are no group discounts at our facility we usually book each dog into its own suite and let them play together outside during play time and they may share a suite when feeding time is over. As we handle and care for each dog individually the charge is 20.00 per dog per day and cats is 20.00 per cat per day.
Do we need to bring collars and leashes? Yes! All dogs must arrive with a collar and leash on them and cats must arrive in a carrier.
How far in advance should I make a reservation for my pet for a holiday? Sooner is always better than later! We have reservations already for Christmas 2007! Our busy season is all year at our kennel. Always Reserve early to avoid disappointment! Our kennel is in high demand and we simply cannot take every client that wants to board here so PLEASE reserve early! JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, and ALL HOLIDAYS are the MAJOR PEAK TIMES and if you have dates in those time frames you MUST RESERVE EARLY!
Do you accept all dogs at your kennel? No, We only accept very friendly, well socialized pets at our facility. Not all kennels are for all dogs and we refer aggressive dogs to a facility that does not have to handle the dogs. We do interview all large new dogs before accepting them as clients at our facility and we will schedule an appointment to meet your dog before booking a reservation. Dogs that have aggression problems toward people are best left in a facility where they do not have human contact. Here, we handle all dogs many times a day for walks and play time! We specialize in what we call the couch potato set which is the friendly family dog that is with the family and friends most of the time in the house. We do not accept dogs that stay outside all the time or dogs used only for hunting purposes as they do best at a kennel that puts dogs outside all day. WE DO NOT ACCEPT MALE DOGS THAT ARE NOT NEUTERED UNLESS UNDER 6 MONTHS OLD.
What food should we bring for our pet? We require that you bring the food that the pet gets at home and any treats they get also. Please bring only the food your dog is used to receiving at home as boarding your pet is not the time to change their diet!
