Pune is a wonderful city, and I have stayed here most of my
life.
The city has a lot of educational institutes. People from all
over India, and some from outside, come to study
here. It has India’s oldest engineering college, COEP. It
is also a cultural center, and we see well-known artists performing during
the Pune Festival as well as Savai Gandharva. This is also the city where badminton was
invented. In fact it was also known as the ‘Poona game’. Pune is a green city, depending
on, of course, what part of it you visit. It has several hills, and you see a
lot of people going there for walks in the mornings and evenings. People come
here either to exercise or to chat with friends. For people who love food,
they will find no dearth of restaurants. Ranging from bhel
stalls to 5-star places, there is food to satisfy all! Pune is growing from a
small town to a cosmopolitan city, and I enjoy staying here. There is
something for everyone. Swimming pools, tennis courts, gyms, all not more than
10 minutes away. There are lots of places you can shop too. There are new
movie multiplexes in town, and also cafes where you can ‘hang out’. There are
dozens of classes for mehendi, dancing, singing,
and more.
Coming to the not-so-good things about the city, since most
people have atleast a two wheeler, there is a lot
of traffic and pollution. There are so many pot holes that you have to really
search for where the road is. With some of the new traffic rules that are
being enforced in the city, conditions seem to be improving slightly.
There is definitely a lot of scope for improvement… it would
be wonderful if the infrastructure improved and if people had more civic
sense. All the same, Pune is my hometown, and will always remain dear to me.
