BCT Day 64

September 26th, 2002

Yesterday was one of the most, if not the most anticipated days of my 20 year life. I saw my people for the first time in ten and a half weeks.

We had graduation practice in the morning. Marching back singing sha-na-na-na hey-hey-hey goodbye was one of the sweetest feelings ever. But then when we turned the corner into our company area and saw our families waiting for us, there was such a flurry of emotions in us. We marched back, chests sticking out, proud as hell. These were our families we were coming back to. But we were not their little boys anymore. We came back to our moms, dads, sisters, nephews, girlfriends, best friends, friends, not as what they knew us as, but as U.S. Army soldiers.
