BCT Day 13

August 6th, 2002

We finally did some PT today. GASP! We ran a mile and did some elevated diamond push-ups. Sound painful? It is. I'm gonna be a buff motherfucker though. After that, I was volunteered to go help a sergeant. It was cool. She took four of us to her office to help move around and assemble some furniture. I spent a lot of time sitting in the back of a pickup truck riding around Ft. Knox. I also got lots of chill time, sitting and staring at a tree in a nice grassy area. Then she took us to a dining facility that is way nicer than ours. We had like 20 choices of food instead of two, also ice cream and soda. Those last two are a big no no in basic. They had music going instead of drill sergeants yelling. It was Shania Twain playing, but it was music. I didn't care. It was music. It was a nice escape from basic.

Later on, we got to go to a store where we could buy what we needed. The drill sergeant said, "Keep your head and eyes straight forward. You don't need to be looking at beer and cigarettes." Then one of us said, "But there's a Burger King straight ahead." Oh the cruelty. Oh well. The store was a peek at the outside world. It made me realize just how precious it is to be able to buy a Milky Way and a Maxim.

Seven more weeks. Just seven more weeks. My platoon is really coming along. We are living up to our name of Mad Dogs. We're slowly letting go of being mildly irritated puppies. When we get smoked as a group, we smile and ask for more. Specially in the sawdust pit. We like it there for some reason.
