Speaker Projects

This tower, and a second identical one, is used as one of the front channels for a Dolby Digital system. It was built with a Morel tweeter and two Vifa 8s. A Dayton Loudspeakers 2 way crossover was used to distribute the frequences. The sound is excellent for use with both music and movies. The owner of this project says that sometimes he stops what he is doing and just sits down to enjoy them.

The center channel speaker, seen above, was designed to match the previously discussed fronts, both acoustically and aesthetically. It has the same Morel tweeter and Dayton crossover as the towers in addition to two Vifa sheilded 6.5s. The box contains two braces to make it stronger. It sounds amazing with a Dobly Digital system. The voices and special effects come out clear, as if you are actually part of the movie.

The rear speakers were designed to match the fronts and the center. It used the same morel tweeter and a vifa 8 as the fronts. The box has two braces similiar to the centers to make it stronger. This set of speakers would work excellent for fronts all though they are being used as rears. They provide good bass response and amazing highs. As do all the speakers.

This is the fianl piece to this 5.1 system. The sub has a Kappa Perfect 12. It is good down to 20 hz and has a huge excursion. Is some movies it feels as if there is a fan in the room but it is just the woofer moving so much air. It is very well matched making the whole system seem full. The box was constructed of 3/4" MDF with the front baffle doubled up and a brace in the center. It has 1/4" oak plywood on the outside. The box is rock soild and weighs a ton. This sub woofer made the system more amazing then before. The clean full bass is just amazing.

I will soon be reconstructing this page with pictures of the rears and sub while it was being built. These speakers all together approached $1200 for all supplies. But easly out perform anything that is in this price range. They look and sound amazing. Hopefully I will be building some of my own soon.
