Saving Grace Equine Rescue is now back underway in doing what we can to help horses in need. The rescue has relocated to the Muskoka area and is able to start helping  needy equines!!

Please consider, if you are unable to offer your home to a needy horse, that we do offer "sponsoring" programs. You will receive bi-weekly updates about the horse you are sponsoring and you will be recognised on our developing "Wall of Fame" for your help in assisting us to help horses.

SAVING GRACE EQUINE RESCUE
There was a man walking along a beach covered in starfish that had washed ashore. Eventually he came across a small boy. This young boy was picking up the starfish one at a time and putting them back into the ocean.  This gentleman came up to the boy and asked him what he was doing. The youngster replied "I am putting them back into their ocean, back to their home". The man was surprised and he said to the boy, "But there are are thousands and thousands of them. You are only putting them back one at a time. You can never put them all back so what is the point of even trying? You are not making a difference."
The young boy stood for a moment, then bent over and picked up another starfish. He looked up at the man, held up the starfish and said, "It makes a difference to this one".

This is the idea behind what we do here at Saving Grace Equine Rescue.
IN MEMORIAM
SUGAR: This mare is a very sweet girl. Her temperament is wonderful and  her conformation is great. Sugar was recently diagnosed with navicular and as such, was not wanted any more by her previous owners.

VERY IMPORTANT NEWS!!!
UPDATES!!
It is with great sadness here at the rescue that I update this site to say that "Happy" was euthanized on March 16, 2009. He had been here almost a year and had come along so well after his horrifying starvation ordeal. During the past 10 months he packed on the weight and became a mascot of sorts around here. He was affectionately nicknamed "Old Rotten" and he had the run of the place. At any given time you could see him peering in the kitchen or living room window looking for treats.
In the mornings he would let himself out of his paddock, close the gate behind him and wander around all day... at the end of the day he would go back in and of course, politely close the gate behind him once again. That kind of horse is really a once in a lifetimer.
Godspeed old man... you will be dearly missed around here.

"Old Rotten" in February of 2009.... fat, happy and incredibly loved.
This is the day he arrived at the rescue May 2008... starved, covered in sores, full of worms... and a dull unhappy eye.

Within a week of being here he had a mischevious glint in his eye and was on his way to far better health.
Some things that have been going on around the farm and rescue here.... more fencing has been put up, with a mix of wooden plank, coated wire and electric. In some spots, all 3 for those who are....er...a little escape prone. HAHA! Our hangar out in the back pasture was revamped and rewalled to provide an even bigger space for those who are out there. We have run piping to the front paddock to allow easier water supply(more for me than the horses! Heh...)
We have a 40 acre pasture which boasts a mix of forest, stream, seeded grass pasture and run in shelter, 15 acre pasture,  a 5 acre grass pasture, a 2 acre "dry lot" paddock for those who cannot be on grass full time or for quarantining purposes. As well, we are putting in a sand ring this year for training.
