For
years Native American Inuit Indians lived in harmony with the noble Alaskan
Penguin. These noble birds once roamed freely along the southern coast of Alaska.
During the early part of the 1800s the bird was driven to near extinction by
starving gold-miners and trophy seekers. When the alarm was first sounded the
U.S. Government took the then unprecidendented move of denying that the bird
even existed. Occasional reports of fishermen finding penguins in their nets
still surface though.
Matters were
made even worse when the horror of the Exxon Valdez struck. Still the Alaskan
Penguin is managing to cling to it's rare corner.
The native alaskan penguin is a shy, docile bird that is a vital part of northern ecosystem.
Now thanks to
man's sensless waste of our earths precious resources, these birds are forced
to scavange for a living. Residents of Anchorage have even gone so far as to
label the bird as a "pest" and "a nusence"
OMG!!!!! I just found this wonderful poem called "Alaska Swansong"!!!
ALASKAN SWANSONG
It’s not Yukon gold that is the treasure
It’s many things that you cannot measure
Blue ice of Glaziers all around
And the kinds of wildlife that abound
The great tail of a Humpback Whale
Breaks the water like a giant flail
Dolphins and Penguins lead the way
As the cruise ships head for Glacier Bay
More of this wonderful poem!!
PLEASE
HELP SAVE THIS RARE AND WONDERFUL CREATURE!!!
