The Laws of a country expose the true personality of that country because of the purposeful planning that is required in order to pass laws and develop a legal system in the first place.
Thus, examining the laws of the State of Israel leads to an extra level of insight into the conflict because it shows the long-range intentions and attitudes of the Government toward the situations it finds itself in.
Thus we see the government's struggles to create a modern democracy ruled by just laws.
But we also see the Israeli governments efforts to give the Jewish people special privilege and advantages in Israeli society, and often at the expense of the non-Jewish inhabitants, and especially the Palestinian natives. And the laws show how this is especially true in the adjacent occupied Palestinian territories.
And this legalized discrimination and oppression seriously conflicts with the ideals of a just democracy, and interferes with the efforts to create a true democracy serving everyone in the country.
One possible solution is also in the laws - to support a civil rights movement, which could bring about changes to the legal and political systems, and justice and corrective social measures such as affirmative action and teaching tolerance in schools.
This would not be possible unless there was at least some democracy in Israel, but examination of the laws also show ongoing, systematic discrimination, oppression and even exploitation.
