DEFENCE SERVICE (AMENDMENT No. 2) LAW, 5747-1987*

Replacement of section 21.

1. Section 21 of the Defence Service Law (Consolidated Version) 5746-1986⁽¹⁾, (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Law") shall be replaced by the following section:

"Duty of agricultural training.

21.

(a) The Minister of Defence may, with the approval of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee of the Knesset, prescribe by regulations that a period not exceeding the first twelve months of the regular service of a person of military age shall, after basic military training, be devoted to agricultural or some other pioneer (chalutzi) training.
(b) In regulations as aforesaid, the Minister of Defence may also prescribe the branches of the economy, training in which shall be regarded as agricultural or other pioneer training, as well as the rules and regime to be applied in training as aforesaid.".

Amendment of section 22.

2. In section 22(c) of the principal Law, the expression "section 21(d)" shall be replaced by the expression "section 21".

Commencement.

3. This Law shall have effect from the 1st Tishrei, 5746 (16th September, 1985) and for this purpose, the provisions of section 16 of the Defence Service Law (Consolidated Version), 5719-1959 shall be deemed replaced by the provisions of section 21 of the principal Law, as enacted by this Law.
