PRESS RELEASE: SOS GREEN TEAM 2002
Save Our Seine River Environment Inc. (SOS) has received final approval for four 12-week provincially funded Urban Green Team positions for the summer of 2002. These students and our federally funded Green Team leader, Nathan Laser, will be working over the next 16 weeks improving, cleaning and greening the Seine River. Teen Stop Jeunesse, a United Way funded organisation, has agreed to provide a home and support for our Green Team at no cost to us whatsoever! Pat Leblanc, his right hand man Mike and the summer students at Teen Stop will do the Green Team's paperwork and payroll and help us with the many logistics entailed in attacking the effects of time and neglect on the river and the pathways beside it. This exciting new partnership between the federal government, the province, environmentalists and those who work with at-risk-youth is the answer to some of the Riel Community's unmet needs. We hope that this summer is the first of many we spend working hard together to restore the river and improve its canoeability. To paraphrase Mr. Toad, messing about in boats is one of the most worthy of human endeavours, as well as one of the most fun.
