| Trail Report July 2002 Seine River Greenway Trail (St. Vital) This winter SOS began working with the city on a trail plan from Southglen Blvd. to Creek Bend Road in St. Vital. The City has agreed with SOS that a trail plan should be in effect BEFORE development is allowed to take place on the riverbank. Developers along this stretch of St. Annes Rd. are now legally obliged to erect signage announcing the Future Seine River Greenway Trail. Condo owners are told in writing in their purchase agreements that the trail is coming. The developers of the new condos at 1185 St. Annes Rd. were the first builders that SOS negotiated with. We are also in negotiation with the DSFM regarding the proposed high school at Warde Avenue. The first stretch of path will be built from Southglen to the Golden Way path north of Warde. The City and SOS are in negotiation with Vic Wyatt and the Hindu Temple to build a path from St. Annes Rd. to the river trail between the two properties on the Hydro right of way and on their properties. SOS will begin trail marking this summer and hopes to finish this initial section in 2003. A biking/hiking trail from St. Marys Road to Southglen and St.Annes's will then be completed. SOS is happy to add another portion of the Trans Canada Trail within city limits. The southern-most section from the Golden Way to Creek Bend Rd. may take a decade or more to complete as the area is currently made up of fallow fields awaiting development. SOS is currently allowed to build trails after the land is developed and not before. I am sure that the deer don't mind that. |
| 2003 Due to construction at both ends use care when using the trail. Two new riffles have been installed in the river nearby to maintain water levels. The Royalwood sewer connection at Vic Wyatt will built in the fall of 2003. |
