Save Our Seine Hosts Filipino Environmentalists

On Tuesday, July 2/02 the SOS Board and its Green Team led a flotilla of canoes down the Seine River to the proposed site of the Bois des Esprits Park. While SOS has met a few setbacks over the years, advocacy groups in Second and Third World nations have even more daunting challenges ahead of them. SOS members have toured Siberia and are recognized as leading Canadian environmental advocates. With the world growing ever smaller, five respected Filipino advocates spent a beautiful day on the Seine River with SOS members, finding many similiar concerns between SOS and PCEEM (
www.pceem.org).The Philippines-Canada Environmental and Economic Management Project is a five-year project (1998-2003), a bilateral effort between the governments of the Philippines and Canada. With the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) representing the Philippines and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) representing Canada, the projects overall goal is to improve the management of identified watershed ecosystems in Metro Cebu and Davao City. SOS wishes the people of Cebu and Davao luck in restoring their rivers, and we wish a safe journey home to our new friends Mari, Grace, Leopoldo and Oscar.
