| Cleanup 1997 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18th, (Adapted from The Lance and Free Press, Oct.30, 1997) More than a hundred volunteers turned out to haul a record number of tonnes of debris from the banks of the Seine River on October 18th this year. Girl guides, eco-net kids, costumed voyageurs, loyal Save Our Seine volunteers and politicians lend a hand in the seventh annual cleanup at the north end of Youville St.. Will Barmeier, SOS trail chair, Bob Tinker, SOS president, MLA Shirley Render, Coun. Dan Vandal, Urban Affairs Minister Jack Reimer, Secretary of State Ron Duhamel and J.P. Brunet, SOS vice-president were some of the volunteers involved in our fall cleanup. The SOS River Trail Project received a boost on this day with the announcement of a $55,000 grant from the Winnipeg Development Agreement. The grant brings the amount raised to $148,000 for the $262,500 Interpretive Trail Project planned by SOS. |
