Save YOUR County Hides and Animals Inspector!

Vote NO on Proposition 10!

With little-to-no public debate, and practically no discussion on the floor of the Texas Legislature, your elected representatives voted to eliminate a tried and true office integral to animal health in the state of Texas for generations ...

... the office of Inspector of Hides and Animals

We urge you, your neighbors, friends, relatives, enemies (unless they're animal haters) and co-workers to vote November 6 (a Tuesday) and during early voting period on Proposition 10 -- and the other 15 important amendments on this year's ballot.

Sure, no one has held the office (that we know of) in about 20 years, but that doesn't mean the office won't be necessary again. As a matter of fact, most Texans would agree it already is! Just because your car's tires go flat doesn't mean you swear off tires! On the contrary, you buy new tires. So perhaps it's time for counties to step up to the plate and appoint animals and hide inspectors ... before it's too late.

But the only way that will happen is if we all vote NO on Proposition 10! And don't forget the other important amendments while you're at the ballot box. A low voter turnout is expected, so every vote counts. Thank you!

Information Proposition 10 is as follows
(our notes in red)

Proposition No. 10 (House Joint Resolution No. 69) is the constitutional amendment to abolish the constitutional authority for the office of inspector of hides and animals.

  • Comments by supporters: No one currently holds the office of inspector of hides and animals in any Texas county (that we know of). The amendment will (if we let it pass) clean up (bias alert!) the Texas Constitution by removing archaic references to the office. All functions formerly performed by the inspector of hides and animals are currently being performed by other entities (but under the oversight of whom?). Animal health inspectors inspect hides and animals to control animal diseases. Inspectors from the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association inspect cattle to prevent theft.

  • Comments by opponents: No comments opposing the amendment were made during the house and senate committee hearings or during discussion of the amendment in the house and senate chambers (THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! Call your representatives and senators today and demand to know why). A review of other sources also revealed no apparent opposition to the amendment (maybe they didn't look hard enough).
