Rachel
Rachel is Kool and the Gang. She's that mysterious little sister that nobody really understands. She's always in her room, mailing off for some records or art, or going to some coffee house. She works at a health food supermarket.
She's nothing like Me or Jess. Actually, she's only like my Dad. They kinda have this nack [gift?] for seeing through people and circumstances to filter out what's really going on. They are the ones that keep their heads when life gets crazy, and their advice will bring you back down to earth.
Not to say that she's given me much of this advice. I'm 5 years older than her, so I guess that we're not as close as I am to Jessica or she is to Jessica [the middle child]. I'm not bitter or anything though. I can see the effect that she has on her friends and on Jess.
It's been neat seeing her grow up. She was a big jock in middle school. Her freshman year of high school she was still on the volleyball team, but she was definitely changing. Within the next 2 years she dumped the volleyball team, then she started going to thrift stores, then the coffee houses. She got 'bored' with high school and dropped out so that she could homeschool herself. *shakes head*
Actually, I didn't realize how much I have lost touch with her until just now. I miss her smart-alec retorts and snide comments. I miss the way that she answers every question I ask with, "your mom"--even though we have the same mom.
As best I can tell, she at least believes in God. She's always got some christian 45 playing in her room or going to some indie show downtown. She used to have some Bible study with her skater friends or something. She's got all of these little notes with Bible verses in her room stuck up among the band posters and ticket stubs on the walls. She's probably in there right now, writing something or putting together some kind of package, or maybe she's flipping through her copy of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
