The Forest Drive Foxtrot

Forest Drive is maddening. We need to be able to get to where we need to go.

Smart Growth is one solution. It brings the retail goods and services closer to where we live so either we don’t have to travel as far or we can walk. Mixed-use developments are under consideration along Forest Drive which will establish a sense of neighborhood in many areas. We should not dismiss these out of hand.

Transit is another option. The City of Annapolis has one of the best small city transit systems in the nation. We need to encourage its use, extension and increased frequency further down Forest Drive.

Other options, such as the county and state deciding to work with the city to put coordinated, smart electronic controllers on traffic lights. We also make the entire corridor more pedestrian friendly as the city has done along Edgewood Road.

We should expect the county to get this done now.
