Save a Generation: Jasmine's Personal Statement

"We chose South Africa's AIDS and debt crisis as our cause because the oldest child born with AIDS in South Africa died at age twelve."

One night I was flipping through the channels on my television.I stopped
on MTV. The diary of Chris Tucker and Bono in South Africa was on.
I had already known that there was an AIDS problem in South Africa,
but I was shocked when I saw it. There were babies who had advanced
HIV and AIDS. There were so many people crowded into �hospitals�
that were no larger than my dining room and kitchen. Shelters were full
of children and mothers, both on their death beds. It was heart breaking.
I was crying so hard throughout the entire episode. I knew that I had to

do something. When I found out that Alicia felt the same way, we decided to start this club.
My main purpose is to spread awareness. I believe that with knowledge comes action.
