2 Doors Behind

Mormon brothers
knock on doors
to reach heaven.
Brother one
he knocked until
he reached seven.
But brother two
he knocked on nine.
Now brother one
is two doors behind.

Chorus
Knocking for Jesus
is sometimes unkind
Especially
when youre,
two doors behind
On the way,
On the way,
Toward heaven.

Brother one
he knocked,
on seven more.
He shouted,
Praise Jesus,
At his 14th  door.
But he looked on in awe,
surveying the scene,
As he watched
brother two,
knock on door sixteen.

Chorus
Knocking for Jesus
is sometimes unkind
Especially
when youre,
two doors behind
On the way,
On the way,
Toward heaven.

Brother one started singing.
His spirit was rocking,
As he ran down the street,
Knock, knock, knocking.
He started to tire,
His knuckles were sore,
When at last he reached,
Doorway twenty-four.

Brother two,
set pace that was quick.
Hes a silver-tongued devil.
His sermons were slick.
And he screamed, hallelujah,
At door twenty-six.

Chorus
Knocking for Jesus
Is sometimes unkind
Especially
When youre,
Two doors behind
On the way,
On the way,
Toward heaven.

Mormon brothers knock,
Until sunset.
Sometimes the townsfolk
Get more then upset.
But Mormons have a calling,
sometimes lose control,
Cause their heaven only holds,
forty-four thousand souls.
They say their prayers every day,
Searching for piece of mind,
They spend their lifetime knocking,
So they wont be left behind.

Chorus
Knocking for Jesus
is sometimes unkind
Especially
When youre,
Two doors behind
On the way,
On the way,
Toward heaven.
