| Why is there so much controversy over the Trinity? How is it that certain religions and/or denominations deny the three separate entities that there is so much scripture to support? Even though the word Trinity does not appear in the Bible, the word Trinity does exist in our modern day English language, which by the way, God understands and speaks fluently. These certain religions and/or denominations deny the existence of the only begotten Son of the Father. They say God reduced Himself to the lowly existence of a man. So, lets ask a question. Who did Jesus pray to? They say, His Divinity! Taking out of context such scriptures as: when youve seen me, youve seen the Father (John 14:9). Now, if you read the entire chapter and open your spiritual mind, you will understand that He was speaking of the Spirit they share. All through the Bible, Jesus makes the statement Father which is in Heaven. You will find this many times in the Book of Matthew. So, are God the Father and Jesus the Son double minded? NO! Let us look at some scriptures that supports the Trinity. These scriptures definitely distinguish the three separate entities that it takes to make a Trinity. Matthew 7:21: not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven. Matthew 10:32-33: Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in Heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in Heaven. Matthew 12:50: For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in Heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Matthew 16:17: and Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in Heaven. Matthew 18:10: Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in Heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in Heaven. Matthew 18:19: Again, I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in Heaven. Matthew 28:19 : Jesus says: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Why would Jesus make so many references to this subject if He, in fact, was God the Father? How could He be in two different places at the same time? And why would He pray to Himself? God the Father is a Spirit and is omnipresent. So, if He reduced Himself to the form of a human, WHO dispatched the Spirit that landed on Him in the form of a dove? (Matthew 3:16, Mark 1:10, Luke 3:22, John 1:32) And, whos voice came out of Heaven saying This is MY SON in whom I am well pleased? Not only these records make a distinguishable difference between the two, but Paul also explained it this way. Philippians 2:9-11: wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him (JESUS), and given Him a name, which is above EVERY name. That at the name of JESUS every knee shall bow, of things in Heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus CHRIST is Lord, to the glory of GOD THE FATHER. The Apostle Paul always referred to the Son as Jesus Christ or Christ Jesus. He had an understanding that few people had at that time, and few have today. The word CHRIST means anointed. The word JESUS means the NAME OF OUR LORD AND TWO, which equals THREE or a TRINITY. When God the Father gave His Son a name that was above every name, the only possible name He could have given Him was His own name. Paul and Jesus other disciples understood this. So, Jesus Christ = Gods Anointed One. Christ Jesus = The Anointed One of God. This is why Paul wrote in Colossians 2:9, for in Him (Jesus Christ) dwelleth ALL the fullness of the GODHEAD BODILY. These same religions and/or denominations would have you believe that the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, and the Holy Spirit are three different things. They are all the same Spirit. However, that Spirit has different functions, as the Apostle Paul explained in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12. Scripture also says that Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of the Father. Roman 8:34: Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Colossians 3:1: If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. This is also mentioned in Hebrews 1:13 (sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High), Hebrews 8:1 (who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens), Hebrews 10:12 (But this man after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God), Hebrews 12:2 (and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God) and 1st Peter 3:22 (Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God) and others. Jesus Christ spoke not of himself, but of God the Father, as in speaking of another person because God the Father is another person. John 7:16-19: Jesus answered them, and said, my doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me. If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that speaketh of himself seeketh His own glory, but He that seeketh His glory that sent Him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him. Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? In this scripture, we have Christ admitting that He is not GOD the FATHER but that He speaks for God the Father. How can anyone who believes in Jesus Christ say that Jesus Christ did not deny Himself for the glory of God the Father? The Bible says in 1st John 2:22: who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father; but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. So, I strongly suggest that you follow the instructions Paul gave to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15, study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. I pray these teachings will encourage and help you in your Christian life. As always, dont take my word or any mans word, read the scriptures for yourself and let the Holy Spirit reveal the truth to you. Please read all scripture above in the context of which it was written. God bless you. DEFINITIONS - Websters Dictionary: DIVINE: Godlike, heavenly, sacred, holy, excellent in the highest degree. Partaking of the nature of God. DIVINITY: The state of being divine. TRINITY: the union of three distinct persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in one Godhead. 1/25/03 |
