This is a favorite hangout for Ivana and I. We come here more often than not before
going out to a club. Its’ posh
atmosphere is accented with piano music and singing from the elegant 30’s,
40’s & 50’s. The extremely
friendly staff makes anyone feel welcome, they seem to exhibit every
quality today’s consumer looks for in an upscale restaurant. Cannot say
enough good things about this place.
Open for lunch with an excellent menu selection, this is quickly
becoming a favorite place for my co-workers and I during the week.
Garbos (Address)
This is a cozy bar that
used to be an all-girl bar but is opening up to a more diversified
crowd. I have always had a terrific
time here. I’ve met so many
wonderful girls here. It has a
sunken bar with one of the best bartenders in town. They have a dartboard; video bar games,
pool table, a second bar next to the dance floor that I imagine opens up on
a heavier night. This bar also has
a higher concentration of Gothic folk than most other bars in town. I love the Gothic scene, ever since the
Baha shutdown (along with its’ Friday Gothic Night), I have been
disappointed in Charlotte’s capacity to entertain the Goths.

This is the newest bar that
I have been to in Charlotte. The
setting was more lounge-like than anything I have seen in a long time. No dance floor, just a long bar, a
single pool table, but the draw to this place is the show. Quite a few tables are set out in the
afore-mentioned lounge-like setting and the performers (mostly
Transgendered girls from what I have seen thus far) do their act on the
stage and among the patrons. They
seem to be able to get larger names on the stage than any of the
TG-friendly clubs in town. It is definitely
a top-notch establishment. Let’s
hope this one sticks around for a while.
I had the occasion to meet the owner and upon encouragement from my
friend, the two of them managed to embarrass me really well! And still I had a good time! Being only a block
(half-block?) from Valentino’s, the two make a great combo for a
date! (Take the hint, guys! J )
Hartigans
Pub (Address)
First off, they have the
best chicken strips and fries in town!
Bar None. This is nice restaurant/bar/club combo that has
successfully encapsulated the feel of all three businesses. The restaurant is on the top floor along with a quiet
bar. They have their own music,
which is played at an “Active Listening” volume to draw attention away from
the fact that there is a huge dance floor with wonderful dance music being
played downstairs. It is definitely
TG-friendly (as all these listings are) and a fun place to hang out.
Liaisons (Address)
I’ve been here once and definitely want to
go back. Now, this is the place to
pick up guys. It is mostly a man
hangout. (Not to be confused with “boy”
hangouts in some other areas of town.)
I would estimate that when Ivana and I went there, there were maybe
2 other girls and hundreds of guys all throughout the bar… and almost every
one of the guys were HOT! I got hit
on a bit and I can’t say that I minded at all.
Scorpios (Address)
Scorpios. What can I say? This is the original hangout for me as
well as one of the oldest if not THE oldest gay clubs in Charlotte. I came onto the scene the month after Olean’s
went out of business. It took me a
while before I got up enough courage to enter, but let me tell you
this: They were the coolest place
to hang out for straights, gays, and transgendered folk alike. They were trouble-free for a long time,
but then, they just started being closed on the only nights I could really
get out there. Currently, they are
open only on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
Since I work on Mondays and Thursdays, this means I will likely not
frequent this place anymore. Too
bad, because I really enjoyed all the people I met out there.
Treetops
Cabaret (Address) in Hickory
This club rocks. There are 3 bars inside with a centered
dance floor that doubles as a stage for the local drag queens. I have to say that these performers are at
least just as good as the ones you will find in Charlotte. There were lots of guys and girls in
there and hardly any lines waiting for drinks due to the 3 bars! I’m told that this bar is the oldest
club for the gay community in Hickory.
Others have come and gone, but this one is here to stay! Go have a look sometime. It was well worth the 40-minute drive up
