Child Of The Garden - Part 1
CHILD OF THE GARDEN
Part 1

"Aww, isn't she a cutie?" cooed Aunt Redna. It was May 18th 1986 in the quiet town of Darwin - Amila's first birthday. All of her relatives and her parents' friends came to celebrate, and all of them couldn't resist cuddling and pinching the cheeks of the birthday baby. They stuffed little Amila with cake and sweets, which soon turned Amila from a thin child to a plump dumpling.

"Eat more," said one of the relatives, stuffing some goodies into Amila's mouth. "It's your birthday - you deserve it!" Amila couldn't take it anymore, so she cried and crawled away.

"Amila...Amila, where are you?" cried Mrs. Kutsia, Amila's mother. She found her in one of the nearby rooms, playing with some toys. Then she realized something...Amila was mouthing something.

"Bob! Bob, bring the camera here!" shouted Mrs. Kutsia to her husband. "Amila's going to say her first words!" Everyone else heard her and ran towards Mrs. Kutsia's direction. Mr. Kutsia got the camera rolling and everyone waited in anticipation as Amila said her first word...

"Swavage Gwaden!"

"What? Huh?" said everyone else in confusion. Mr. Kutsia replayed the tape and to everyone's surprise, Amila did indeed say 'Swavage Gwaden'. But what on Earth did 'Swavage Gwaden' mean, and where did she get it from?

"Amila darling, what do you mean by 'Swavage Gwaden'?" asked her mother, who was as confused as everyone else.

"Dawen. Dwaniel. Bwisbane!" continued Amila, which was of course caught on tape by her father. Before anyone could react, Amila began to hum a song. A song which was never heard before.

"Where in good heavens did Amila get these words from?" asked Uncle Harry. Amila rarely watched TV, but spent her time listening to the radio. They all thought the words Amila said were from a band or a song, but Hackles, Amila's cousin who also happened to be a radio DJ said there was no song or band of that description.

"I'll be willing to put the recordings up on air and ask if anyone's heard of the band or singer or whatever it is Amila's 'talking' about," offered Hackles. "Is that okay with you?"

"Anything just to know what it means," replied her parents. Amila will soon be a star...before she even knows it.
