While the lineup at the time of release included Viv Campell, the songs on Retroactive were compiled over the previous ten years, and includes work by Steve Clark.
Phil said that working posthumously with Steve Clark's work was like working with a ghost. "There he was, coming out of the speakers."
Retroactive saw the band putting an end to an era, putting out all of the material on which Steve worked and played. From there forward, the era of having Viv playing co-lead.
The band continued to play all the music they created with Steve - and still do, with Phil and Viv taking up the parts.
