Newly signed to management (Peter Mensch/Cliff Burnstein/Leber-Krebs) Def Leppard recorded their first official release with teen Rick Allen frimly on board behind the drum kit.
Recorded at Startling Studios (Which used to be a house owned by Ringo Starr) in Ascot, UK - most of the album was recorded in a day, and could have easily been finished in a week, but an additional two weeks were spent over-dubbing and over-producing the effort.
The Leppards express regret that the extra work "watered" the album down, and have said that it might have been better left alone at a week's worth of work.
Hindsight aside, "On through the night" showed Def Leppard gaining experience and confidence at writing and studio recording.
