After performing at only a few local shows in Sheffield, Joe knew he didn't want to spend the next ten or twenty years waiting around to be discovered. So he took the initiative, borrowed some money from his dad and a friend, and paid to have a thousand copies of Def Leppard's first record pressed. Thus the EP was born. On the band's own label, no less.
Having been harshly reviewed by a local critic, Def Leppard showed their tenacity and wit by having their EP appear on their very own "Bludgeon riffola" label.
Bearing only three tracks, the band gave precious few to friends, alloted a few to sell on consignment at record stores (they might have sold two), and handed the rest around to local disc jockeys at radio stations to try to get some airtime. And, hopefully, get noticed.
