2/20/2000 Savage Underground Savage4+ Tweaked Driver 2.0b1 ================================================ This is my second attempt at a modified driver release. This attempt, should be superior to the last (*Hopefully*). It incorporates the latest Power ICD with the latest driver release, as well as the 3DNOW! enhanced metal driver. I have modified several settings and included the latest release of S3Tweak (1.08b). To name just a few of the many enhancements, I have modified several settings in order to achieve peak quality DVD playback. The stuttering that was visible in several driver releases should be gone, as well as the shakey playback displayed in many recent driver sets. Within the week I will also be posting some S3Tweak Schemes for download as a thank you to those of you who still support my page... I have also included several other things I found may prove valuable to many, Hopefully you will make as good use of them as I have. The latest Windows 2000 drivers were also packaged into this release. If you have lockups under Windows 2000 while using them, goto the display properties => settings => Advanced => Troubleshooting, and then pull the slider over two positions to the left. This corrected my issues with the savage4, and I assume it will do the same for others. OGL & D3D Still work after doing this. I have also included various other utilities, including wmalign. This utility is STRICTLY for Windows 98 & 98 SE users. It is used for optimizing program launches, as well as optimizing memory usage I believe. Regardless it offers performance increases, and is released as part of Windows just tucked away to benefit the average end user. ---Using WMalign--- 1. Extract the files of this directory to the appropriate location of the program you wish to optimize (DONT DO EVERY PROGRAM ON YOUR COMPUTER!!!) 2. Run the batch file the following way: please goto Start => Run => locate WMALIGN.bat in the program dir you extracted to, then run it as follows: wmalign.bat *.exe *.dll 3. Run the program after WMAlign completes its proccessing. 4. Reboot and defragmentate your hard drives. ---Other Tweaks--- I have also included several tweaks I found to boost performance somewhat, including the IRQ Buffer that I read about recently. These performance tweaks will be applied without you doing anything but installing the drivers. ---Special Precautions--- In order to offer the most stable environment for the newest power ICD as many were experiencing lockups, I added a line to the inf file that will delete the registry key that used the 'video only' setting. This seemed to be the issue with the freezing of Quake II &/Or III.
