Founded in 2002 in conjunction with the Sauk Prairie Middle School, our Builders Club has had quite a history--a float in the Cow Chip Parade, a Holiday Cookie Bake, and the fastest bake sale ever--7 minutes to clean out the stock! If you're interested, give us a call!
Improve My Average (IMA)
Shortly after SP Kiwanis was formed in 1989, Kiwanis and the Middle School, together, set up this program. Grade Point Averages (GPA's) between the 1st/2nd, 2nd/3rd, and 3rd/4th quarters are compared. Students achieving an increase in their GPA of .6 are eligable for this award.
This is not quite as easy a task as it seems. On average, a student must improve their grade by one full point in a majority of their studies--that is, 3 of 5 (or 5 of 7) classes must improve by one grade point (from a 'C' to a 'B')!
The award consists of: a discount coupon to the cafeteria (supported by the Middle School), a certificate of achievement, and a t-Shirt celebrating their award (provided by Kiwanis). In addition, there is a short awards ceremony, with refreshments (also provided by Kiwanis)!
Bicycle Rodeo
The Bicycle Rodeo is sponsored by the Sauk Prairie Safe Community Coalition and is supported by Kiwanis. The event is aimed at our community's youngest bicycle riders. It's goal is to foster the growth of bicycle skills, by providing "rodeo" events--like trying to stay 'on the line' while riding in a tight figure '8'--and to provide a safety check on both bikes and helmets. Helmets are replaced, at no cost to the parent, when they fail the safety check!
Kiwanis provides funds for the purchase of helmets, and provides support to the food booth!
Relay for Life
This event, run by a local committee, has had a Kiwanian helping out for many years as the Chairman of the Consession Stand.
Kiwanis proudly serves along side other service groups in the community to support this event, both in serving a pancake breakfast to all walkers and as staff for the all night consession stand!
