Stupid, stupid, stupid stupid--TETHERBALL! (Interestingly
enough, these words match up startlingly well to the real sounds of a tetherball
game.)
Nobody likes tetherball here.
Stupid, stupid stupid stupid--TETHERBALL!
Nobody likes tetherball here.
It's just a ball, (This section, in addition to
being painfully catchy, best represents the television-like brain static
that comes with viewing a game of tetherball.)
on a string,
on a pole,
in the ground,
And we watch it spin round and round (and round)
Stupid, stupid stupid stupid--TETHERBALL!
Nobody likes tetherball,
Let's go get another ball,
Nobody likes tetherball HERE!
Summary: Ok, kids. It's time for Mike to be perfectly honest. Mike doesn't like tetherball very much. In fact, he might go as far as to call it stupid (stupid, stupid, stupid...). One summer Saturday afternoon (it seems like everything happens on a Saturday afternoon around here) Mike was taking a shower, and a brilliant idea came into his mind. Given the power of influence bestowed upon him as a summer camp counselor, why not put this influence to good use? Furthermore, why not apply this power of influence to the most beloved and evil element of camp; the tetherball court? In combination with his knack for irresistable pop hooks, this idea came into being before he had rinsed the shampoo out of his hair. Called The Social Experiment, this mini opus was designed to stick to the minds and tongues of everyone in earshot, and hopefully would lead to a decline in tetherball court population. The number was performed on a Monday night. The next day, it seemed that the group had actually raised awareness about the tetherball courts in camp, as they were more crowded than ever! Frustrated, Mike retreated to his cabin, where he was delivered a bit of shocking news from Ben Flash himself. The song had actually had an unexpected effect. Campers were suddenly using the song as a means to express dislike for other parts of their daily experience. A camper was (this is no joke) overheard singing, "Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid--COUNSELOR! Nobody like counselors here!" Suddenly the song, albeit with a different victory than we had sought out, was a huge and influential success. Later, it was brought to Mike's attention that some campers had actually used the song to evaluate their enjoyment of the "sport" of tetherball. It was discovered that, alas, some kids really do like to play tetherball, for whatever ridiculous reason. At any rate, while The Social Experiment of Camp Wyomoco might not have worked as planned, it most definitely had an effect on its listening audience.
