JUPITER

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. Jupiter does not have a solid surface. Instead, there is a thick blanket of gases moving at high speed. So, a spaceship could not land on Jupiter. It would sink through the gases. Scientist think there may b a solid core deep inside.

Jupiter looks striped with pink, red, yellow, tan .and white bands of clouds. This planet has one 'great red spot' which is actually a giant whirlwind storm that has lasted for more than 300 years.

Jupiter takes 11.9 Earth years to orbit the Sun. It takes just 9 hours and 50 minutes to rotates on its axis once. Jupiter has 16 moons travelling around it. Ganumede and Callisto are two of its largest moon - they are made up of rock and ice.

If Jupiter were a hollow ball, all the other planets could fit inside it! Because of its size and brightness, it is named after the chief Roman god.
