"PAPANASAM SIVAN KARNATAKA SANGEETHA SABHA"

(For details of 2004 Annual programme click   me )

-:TAMIL THYAGAIYA:-

In the year 1989, Birth Centenary celebration was organised all over Tamil Nadu to fondly remember the immortal works of Tamil Thagaiya Sathguru Sri Papanasam Sivan, the great composer of carnatic keerthanas and a strong devotee of Lord Sri Rama. Sath Sangam on its part, came forward to start a Karnataka Sangitha Sabha after the Great poets name. "Sree Sath Sanga Papanasam Sivan Karnataka Sangeetha Sabha" was thus started with spontaneous support from the local public.

Music Sabhas are mostly crowded in the down town of Chennai(Madras) city. Ours is one of the few Sabhas located in the suburb of the city. Music programmes are arranged on Second Saturday of every month. A grand Annual Music programme is also arranged from 2 to 12 January every year when top artistes willingly come forward to give vocal, instrumental and dance programmes. This is certainly a pleasant change from the customary December programmes in the city when all the Sabhas compete with one another to give out programmes with the result that the Rasikas get confused as to where to go.

One of the highlights of the Annual programme is the honouring of senior artistes with "PAPANASAM SIVAN AWARDS" Young and upcoming musicians are encouraged by ging slots in "Valarum Kalagnar" sessions.

Vidhvans and Rasikas throng to the programmes in large numbers.

The Sabha is conducting music classes on every Saturday and Sunday for which response is tremendous.
