Jose Rizal's monument was not made by a Filipino artist
Richard Kissling won the second prize in an art competition held on 1907 to find the best scale model for Rizal's monument.
The first prize went to the Italian sculptor named Carlo Nicoli of Carrara but the contract went to Kissling because Kissling's work would be cheaper.
