PROCEDURES FOR PRAYERS AT HOME

Chakaram, Om (symbolic forms in Tamil or Sanskrit), Sangu. These may be drawn as kolam or yantras maybe used. These are drawn or placed, in that order, in front of each Kuthuvilakku.
- Betel Leaves
- Betel nuts
- Bananas
- Milk
- White flowers (coloured flowers or'kungumam' maybe used as substitutes)
2. On Tuesdays and Fridays (if possible everyday) the whole family should conduct the prayers together in the morning or evening. On pournami ( full moon ) days it is preferred that one attend group prayer at the temple. It would be auspicious if the home prayers could be conducted as the temple pooja.
3. Prayers are begun with an image or picture of Pillayaar and saying the mantra.
Om Sreem Gam Lakshmi Ganapathaye Namaha .While reciting the mantra flowers are offered.Theebam is then offered to Pillayaar. The Mahalakshmi Moola Mantras are said and archana' for the kuthuvilakkus' conducted using the flowers. While reciting each line of the mantra a flower is offered.
4. Water (Theertham) is then let on the prasadam to signify completion of the archana.
5. Theebam is then offered to the lights and the deity.
