Swami SivanandaTHE ART OF HAVING YOUR WAY
(TRANSLATION OF SWAMI'S ARTICLE IN TAMIL)

Not to argue is the first rule of the game. By being patient and speaking tactfully creates a relaxed and friendly environment to deal with any difficult person. It is not WHAT you say but HOW you express your views. Immediate disapproval without allowing the other person to complete what he has to say, will invariably lead to misunderstandings, anger and even hatred. However, there are ways to overcome these obstacles.

A SMILE is a wonderful peace maker. So smilingly, in a cool and calm manner express your opinion. Honour his ideas though it maybe contradictory to yours. Subsequently, gently explain the probable outcome of his views if implemented. You could request him to consider your suggestions. This creates breathing space and does not intidimate the person concerned. When one is given a choice, instead of being forced to follow the views of others, he will feel comfortable to think with a clear mind. This enhances self confidence and develops a better rapport between the two.

By being sensitive to the feelings and reachorn of others you can touch the spirit within another huxnanbeing and reveal the good that lies in hint. This results in not only you having your way but naturally leading others to follow your way.
